The number of martyrs in Aden exceeded 400, while more than 4,000 people have been wounded in the conflicts, said Adnan Al Kaf, the official spokesman for the People’s Relief Union in Aden. Al Kaf spoke in a press conference held earlier today and confirmed this on an interview on Al Jazeera this evening at 11pm.

The destruction is seen all over the city of Aden, “ I can’t believe my eyes, I see pictures of Al Mualla, my neighborhood and I can’t believe what happened to it, I cried my eyes out when I saw those terrible pictures,” said Hanan Ahmed who fled from her house with her family.

Al Kaf said that 70% of Al Mualla district, 60% of Khor Maksar, and 40% of Crater have been completely destroyed, while most of the residents in these areas have been displaced. Many families in different areas in Aden are suffering, but Crater has been named a “disastrous zone”, as many contagious diseases such as dengue fever have been reported in the area.

The current humanitarian situation in Aden is very critical, “the city is under siege, we can’t leave, we can’t get food from other provinces, we don’t have electricity, we can’t find clean water, there is no fuel, we are getting shelled from air, and from the ground, we might as well die,” said Ehab Anwar a law student.

The People’s Relief Union which was launched earlier today, aims to ease the suffering of the citizens, the three committees in the union ( Shelter, Health, and Nutrient) will provide specialized services to the citizens of Aden. Civil society organization, relief agencies, NGOs, and businessmen living abroad welcomed this initiative. The People’s Relief Union confirmed that they will be coordinating with governmental entities in order to ensure the access of aid through land and seaports.
