ADEN — Engineer Saleh Al-Maflahi, deputy head of the Monitoring Center for the Study of Earthquakes and Volcanoes (MCSEV), said an earthquake occurred Sunday at 12:00 a.m. and at 12:10 a.m. in the Gulf of Aden.

Al-Maflahi said the earthquake, which measured a 5 on the Richter scale, happened in the heart of the Gulf of Aden.

He said the earthquake caused no damages. Such earthquakes happen in many places in the country, particularly in areas located in the western part of Yemen, bordering the Red Sea, Al-Maflahi said.

These earthquakes fall within light and medium tremors that aren’t dangerous and are a way to discharge earth’s inner energy, according to MCSEV.

A medium tremor happened in Al-Madareba in Lahj on May 20, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale.
