Condemnation of Noa’man assassination attempt
SANA’A — Political parties and other Yemeni political bodies largely condemned Monday night’s assassination attempt against Doctor Yaseen Saeed Noa’man, the secretary-general of the Yemeni Socialist Party, in Sana’a.
The Joint Meeting Parties (JMPs) condemned the attempt, calling it cowardly. The JMPs warned the perpetrators not make further attempts.
In a statement, the JMPs said it won’t stand and watch assassination attempts against their leaders and members, attacks the group claims is meant to create disorder in society.
The JMPs called upon the security services to firmly stand against those who want to cause insecurity and reveal them and whoever supports them and resort them to public prosecution.
Sultan Al-Atwani, head of the Supreme Council of the JMPs, accused people from the former regime of attempting to assassinate Noa’man.
“People from the former regime are distributing weapons everywhere and attempting to create chaos in the country, resorting to terrorism.”
“We condemn the assassination attempt against Noa’man and consider it an attempt to obstruct change and political settlement in the country. Resorting to such acts will cause violence and confusion in the country,” he added.
The General People’s Congress (GPC) condemned the assassination attempt and wondered why the government didn’t take any actions toward it. The GPC called upon the government to bear its responsibility tracking those charged of the incident and prosecuting them.
Abdullah Bin Amir, a journalist, said the assassination attempt against the president’s consultant is very dangerous because it aimed to hinder the change process.
Amir said creating disorder is a main aim for some powers to anger people with the revolution and revolutionary people. It is aimed to make people say the previous period was better.
The Technical Committee, a committee established to prepare for the National Dialogue Conference, expressed extreme condemnation for the assassination attempt.
The committee demanded that relevant departments start an urgent investigation to reveal the truth behind the attempt and to prosecute the perpetrators.
“The continuance of the security vacuum and tension doesn’t pave the way to start a comprehensive National Dialogue and doesn’t help make it successful,” the committee said in a statement.
Noa’man said the assassination attempt against him is mainly directed to the political settlement in the country to stop the change process based on the Gulf Initiative.
“There are official and unofficial checkpoints, and any group can establish a checkpoint anywhere and harass people without being punished by the concerned authorities.”
